I Heart Norwich – shopping!!

Norwich is my home town and I love it!!  When I moved back here from working in London to be with my now husband I wondered what an earth I had done but in recent years it has turned into a fabulous place to live – with a mixture of great chain shops and resuturants along side independent businesses that make it the quirky and cool place to live and work.

I live in North City which is in my mind the cool side of town – very much like Brick Lane in London, a mix of vintage, ethnic and charity shops that makes for a great vibe!!

So I thought that I would sing the praises of my home town, with a series called “I heart Norwich” – showcasing the places I love eat, drink, hangout and shop. Most of the places I love are independent businesses as I want to support small companies as much as I can and I think it is really important and Norwich is blessed with lots of fabulous people that have set up the most wonderful shops, cafes, bars and galleries rather than the blandness of many high streets many towns.

Let’s start with one of my favourite things – shopping!!

Norwich has fabulous shops – all the normal high street stores – and I do have a fondness for Top Shop and Office shoes but most of the time when it comes to fashion and interiors I hit the independent shops.

Everyone who reads this blog regulary knows my love for vintage and two of my favourites are on my route into town so of course I have to take a little look every time I head into Norwich city centre.

Small but packed with vintage gems run by a lovely couple - Joline knows my taste so well so she will source pieces for me that results in the "Karen" rail that never makes the shop floor!!

A relative newby on the block but fast becoming one of my favourites - quite a few pieces have recently found there way into my wardrobe!!

Vintage is a big thing in Norwich which means we often have vintage fairs and Pop Up Shops that feature many fabulous sellers so I always try and pop along when they roll into town.

When it comes to interiors I again head for the different and quirky –  Magdalen Street, North City boasts two amazing vintage emporiums that I could spend hours wandering around finding interesting and unusual pieces for the home that I really don’t need or have room for but just can’t leave without. Just to prove that North City is the place to be a new interiors shop has just arrived Three Magdalen Street which is a sister shop to one on Columbia Road in the ultra trendy Shorditch.

Another of my favourite places to shop for interiors is Jane Richards Interiors – not the cheapest of places to shop in but well worth saving up for the amazing fabrics from Christian Lacroix, House of Hackney, funky accessories from Studio Job and Toilet Paper – there are a number of things on my wish list for when we start our major house re-decoration (more of that in another post!!)

These candlesticks from House of Hackney are definitely on my wish list.

Last on my least for interiors is a chain but a good one – despite my love for vintage and bright colours one thing that I always have is white bedlinen and so the best place in my mind is The White Company – I do work there one day a week so the discount comes in very handy but I have been a long standing customer – shopping with them first in London.

Pure white bed linen lends it's self to lots of options for dressing the bed.

These are just of few of my favourite places to shop in Norwich – coming soon – where I love to eat, drink, hang out and places to see and do.

Where are you are places to shop in Norwich?? Let me know so I can check them out.
