I love a cocktail and we are one again blessed with some fabulous bars in which to drink – and we even have our own Cocktail Week which is now an annual event thanks to blogger Retro Chick and her hubby Mr Chick.
One thing I do sometimes find a tad disappointing is that people don’t dress up in this city to go out for cocktails but it seems to be the thing now to “dress down” rather than up but nevertheless these are my favourites places to go to and “dress up” – because I will continue to do so even if no one else does!! In my mind cocktails taste better when you are dressed up much more glamorous!!
Gin and Tonic is one my favourite tipples – a habit given to me by my father who was also rather partial to a large G&T so having a place dedicated to the stuff is heaven – the décor in The Gin Palace is like stepping back into 1930’s glamour too with opulent overtones of a Chinese flavour!!
An old favourite and recently celebrated it’s 10th Birthday – how did that happen and where did the time go?
The Birdcage affectionately known as The Birdy by those who know it is a place to chill, drink cocktails or on a Friday sip fizz and eat fish and chips from their neighbour The Grosvenor Fish bar – another great Norwich institution with the best fish supper ever!! And you may even get a hello from resident cat Maraud!!
Platform 12 is a newby but a goodie – it has great sofas and cozy corners to sit and chat over one of their delicious cocktails or glass of bubbly served in a coupe of course!! If you are so inclined you can have a tinkle on the piano in the corner or listen to one of the regular jazz bands that set up and play mellow tunes!
No 42 King Street is little out-of-the-way but well worth heading to – small but perfectly created cocktails and a great wine list make it one of the best place to have a drink. With great tasting tapas too – make sure you book a table as it gets very busy at weekends!!
Again there are many more bars in Norwich to drink in but these are the ones that you will regularly see me propping up the bar in a Glam frock with a G&T or a glass of bubbly (in a coupe of course) in a corner deep in conversation!!!
